New Year Rice: Ika South Widows Appreciate Delta Governor

Widows in Ika South Local Government registered under the widows welfare scheme, have expressed appreciation to the governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for providing bags of rice for them as gift for the new year, 2026.

The widows, drawn from the twelve wards in Ika South, on Thursday, January 15 gathered at the Agbor Nta residence of their local government Co-ordinator, Ezinne(Mrs) Cecilia Ogbonyeri where they declared that they were grateful and thankful to Governor Oborevwori who according to them have been supportive to their welfare.

The elated widows in their separate remarks, praised Governor Oborevwori for making their welfare a priority in his administration. They assured him of their continued support and prayers.

The Co-ordinator of the widows alert scheme in Ika South and Executive Assistant,on Women Mobilization to the state governor, Ezinne(Mrs) Cecilia Ogbonyeri while playing host to the widows disclosed that the rice given to the widows by Governor Oborevwori was shared to them in their various wards. She thanked the governor for his continued love and care for widows in the state since his assumption in office in 2023. She declared that the widows were not only solidly praying for the success of Oborevwori’s administration but also , supporting him politically.

She used the medium to commend the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for creating the enabling environment for widows in the state to enjoy democratic dividends. She described Okowa as a good leader whose kindness to the widows is great. She also thanked the state Co-ordinator, Widows Alert, Chief Dr Isioma Okonta for ensuring that the widows regularly receive their monthly stipends and gifts from the state government. The appreciation from the widows was also extended the Chairman, Ika South Local Government, Hon(Engr) Jerry Ehiwarior for his concern for their wellbeing.

The event which recorded a large turn out served as a veritable avenue for the widows to pray for Governor Oborevwori, Okowa, Okonta and Ehiwarior. Salts and onions were also distributed to the widows by Ezinne(Mrs) Cecilia Ogbonyeri.
