Oborevwori Praises Traditional Rulers as Pillars of Peace and Development in Delta State

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has described traditional rulers as vital pillars of peace, unity, and development across the state.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., made this known during the 88th birthday anniversary celebration of Emmanuel Efeizomor II, the Obi of Owa Kingdom.

The event took place at the Obi of Owa Palace in Owa Oyibu, located in Ika North-East Local Government Area. It attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, and prominent sons and daughters of the kingdom.

Traditional Rulers Key to Peace and Grassroots Development

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the revered monarch as a symbol of wisdom and a stabilizing force whose leadership has significantly contributed to the progress of the Ika nation and Delta State at large.

According to the governor, traditional rulers remain essential partners in governance because of their close connection with grassroots communities.

He noted that their wisdom, guidance, and stabilizing influence continue to support government efforts aimed at sustaining peace, strengthening communities, and advancing development across Delta State.

The governor reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to working closely with traditional rulers to promote peace, infrastructure development, and inclusive economic growth across the state.

Celebrating a Legacy of Leadership and Service

Governor Oborevwori also congratulated the monarch, Emmanuel Efeizomor II, on reaching the remarkable milestone of 88 years, describing him as a towering symbol of unity, peace, and progressive leadership.

He noted that the monarch’s nearly 66 years on the throne have been marked by wisdom, cultural preservation, and a forward-looking vision that has made Owa Kingdom a model of harmony and development in Delta State.

The governor further praised the monarch’s role as a peacemaker, father figure, and former Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, noting that his leadership continues to strengthen the relationship between traditional institutions and democratic governance.

Royal Honours Conferred on Distinguished Personalities

The celebration also featured the conferment of royal honours on several distinguished sons and daughters of the kingdom in recognition of their contributions to the growth of Owa Kingdom and Delta State.

Among those honoured were Prince Victor Efeizomor, Barr. Raymond Isitor, Prof. (Mrs) Chiedu Owabor-Moye, Chief Godwin Irabor, Prof. Eric Eboh, Chief Okwuokenye Inneh, and Prof. Victor Ehiedu, among others.

The ceremony was attended by prominent personalities including the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, CON, alongside traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders.

The event highlighted the enduring role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, cultural identity, and sustainable development across Delta State and the wider Nigeria.
