President Tinubu Celebrates Former President Olusegun Obasanjo at 89

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday greetings to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo as the elder statesman marks his 89th birthday on March 5.

In a message celebrating the former leader, President Tinubu acknowledged Obasanjo’s enduring influence on Nigeria, Africa, and the global community. He commended the former president for his decades of service and the important roles he has played in shaping Nigeria’s political history.

The President highlighted Obasanjo’s remarkable contributions to national leadership, noting his time as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, during which he oversaw the historic transition that returned the country to civilian rule in 1979. He also recognized Obasanjo’s later service as Nigeria’s civilian president from 1999 to 2007 during the Fourth Republic.

President Tinubu further reflected on the former leader’s historic experiences, including his role in defending Nigeria’s unity during the civil war, his imprisonment for speaking out against military rule, and his consistent advocacy for Africa’s political and economic advancement.

As Obasanjo celebrates another milestone, the President also acknowledged his continued contributions to national discourse through books, public commentary, and policy interventions that demonstrate his deep commitment to nation-building.

President Tinubu prayed for continued good health, strength, and wisdom for the former president as he continues to serve Nigeria and humanity.
