President Tinubu Renews Appointment of NIPSS Director-General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the renewed appointment is for a final term of four years.

Professor Omotayo was initially appointed to the position in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His appointment was subsequently confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in February 2022.

An accomplished academic, Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability. He studied at the University of Ibadan from 1980 to 1990, where he earned a PhD in Geography.

He began his teaching career at Lagos State University in 1985 and quickly advanced through the academic ranks. By the age of 30, he had become a Senior Lecturer in 1992.

Throughout his career at Lagos State University, Professor Omotayo held several leadership positions, including serving as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017. Before his appointment as Director-General of NIPSS in 2021, he was also the Director of the Centre for Planning at the university.

The renewal of his appointment is expected to ensure continuity in leadership and strengthen the institute’s role in policy research and strategic studies in Nigeria.
