The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman during the party’s State Congress held at the Cenotaph.
At the congress, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori charged the newly constituted State Working Committee (SWC) to begin immediate preparations aimed at securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
Chief Arenyeka emerged by consensus as delegates and party leaders gathered in Asaba to elect a new leadership that will steer the affairs of the party in the state.
Also elected during the congress were Elder Moses Iduh as Deputy Chairman and Chief Efe Uko as State Secretary.
Other members of the new State Working Committee include Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central Chairman), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Delta South Chairman), Engr. Daniel Ossai (Delta North Chairman), Elder Emmanuel Egbabor (State Organising Secretary), Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo (State Publicity Secretary), Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie (State Woman Leader), and Christopher Agali (State Youth Leader), among others.
Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, declared the executives duly elected after their affirmation by delegates, explaining that the process complied fully with the party’s constitution and congress guidelines.
Earlier, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee led by Elder Omeni Sobotie. The motion was seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and unanimously adopted by delegates.
Oborevwori Calls for Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections
Speaking at the congress, Governor Oborevwori thanked the outgoing executive for steering the party through what he described as a critical transition period following the political realignment of April 2025.
The governor said the decision to align Delta State with the renewed vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strengthened the party’s position in the state.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of congresses across 270 wards and 25 local government areas demonstrates the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and party unity.
“There was no imposition. What we witnessed is consultation, agreement and inclusiveness. This structure belongs to all of us,” Oborevwori stated.
He urged the new executive committee to strengthen grassroots mobilization, hold regular meetings, and intensify voter engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our mission is clear. We must secure victory at every level — the Presidency, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Governorship and the State House of Assembly,” the governor said.
Arenyeka Promises Inclusive Leadership
In his acceptance speech, Chief Solomon Arenyeka thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him and the new State Working Committee.
He assured party faithful that the new leadership would prioritize unity, transparency, accountability, and grassroots engagement.
Arenyeka also pledged that the party in Delta State would work tirelessly to ensure victory for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The Delta APC State Congress attracted party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates from across the state, marking the beginning of a new leadership phase for the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
